With Bosco Colto — amplifying voices in sustainability

Media and tech partner of Bosco Colto since 2025: editorial coverage, on-the-ground presence, remote connectivity, communication strategy. Photo archive, podcast, booklet, print materials, social campaigns — and much more to come.

With Bosco Colto — amplifying voices in sustainability

TLDR. Our purpose is to amplify the voices of those working in sustainability. With Bosco Colto — an international campus for research, design and architecture in the Boschi di Santo Pietro, Caltagirone — we have been media and tech partner since 2025. Editorial coverage, on-the-ground presence, Starlink to bring connectivity to remote areas, communication strategy. 2025→2026 · media partner · photo archive, podcast, booklet, print, social — and much more still growing

The project

Bosco Colto is an annual campus held in the Boschi di Santo Pietro, Caltagirone, Sicily. Organized by Makramè APS, it brings together international tutors, students of architecture, design and art, and the local community around a central theme. It is a temporary construction site where things are built physically, using local materials, traditional techniques and contemporary hybridizations.

How it started: Nutrimenti, 2025

Everything begins with an invitation. In 2025, Marco Falcone and Fabrizio Foti — who run the programme — invite Max to take part in Nutrimenti: a programme within the Bosco Colto ecosystem dedicated to food, territory and climate change.

From that invitation comes our first operational contribution: an exhibition and a series of video interviews with local producers — people who are changing the way they work the land in response to climate change. The video is online:

Nutrimenti probably deserves a story of its own. It is the moment when we understand what it means to be inside Bosco Colto, living it from within.

2025: Data Highway, communication, presence

The partnership deepens in 2025 on multiple fronts.

We work together on the Bosco Colto web app for the Sicilian Data Highway grant — a digital infrastructure project for the territory. Alongside the technical side, we work on communication and strategy: how to tell the story of Bosco Colto, to whom, with what voice.

And we are physically present at the campus — as we were again in 2026.

On the ground: 2025 and 2026

Just as in 2025, in 2026 we return to Caltagirone to document the event — as media partner and with operational infrastructure.

The Boschi di Santo Pietro are in a remote area with limited connectivity. We bring our Starlink to ensure connection for the workshops and team. We move with an ETPS BYD electric van and an Askol XKP80 scooter — a way of being present on the ground with a footprint consistent with the project we support.

The Train Kiln — a story we followed with care

One of the most significant stories of BC26 is the Train Kiln — the wood-fire kiln inaugurated on 1 August behind the old church of the Borgo di Santo Pietro.

The kiln was designed and built under the technical guidance of ceramicists Prof. Ted Neal (Ball State University, Indiana — one of the world’s leading experts in Train Kilns) and Prof. Michał Puszczyński (Academy of Art and Design in Wrocław, member of the International Academy of Ceramics). The artistic journey that led to the kiln was initiated by Domenico Mangano and Marieke van Rooy in previous editions, through their workshop Sound, Ceramics and Communities — a work on ceramics, community and performance.

It is the second Train Kiln built in Italy and the first permanent infrastructure of Casa Bosco Colto. The kiln can reach temperatures of up to 1,350°C, and its construction recovers a historical bond: for centuries the Bosco di Santo Pietro fed the kilns of Caltagirone, making the city’s ceramic tradition renowned. The Train Kiln brings firing back into the forest.

Documenting its construction, its inauguration, its meaning — that is part of the editorial work our team did during the campus.

The team

We arrived with knowledge and people to run an independent team.

Photographers: Giuliana Lo Presti, Davide Piro Executive design and materials: Gloria Pulvirenti, Alessandra Gervasio Podcast: Giulio Domina, Salvatore Peluso Coordination: Massimiliano Mauro, Francesca Fossati, Ludovica Ranzini

A team that believed in the project — that is how we work when the mission is worth it.

What we produced

  • Photo archive
  • Podcast
  • Booklet
  • Print materials
  • Social campaigns
  • And more — the list grows with each edition

The relationship continues.

Digital continuity: the field does not end on the last day of the campus

One thing we have learned: field work needs a digital place to keep living.

We helped the workshops bring their materials online — for those who were not there, for those who want to return to the experience, to build an archive that lasts beyond the campus. Two examples of what this looks like in practice:

→ observatories.boscocolto.org — explorable photo archive of the campus → More-Than-Human Audio Worlds — campus soundscapes, listenable online

For a similar project

We work with cultural organizations, research campuses and territorial projects that want to amplify their voice — a partner that brings knowledge, presence and network — able to be inside a project, not just alongside it.
